Christkindl Market in Des Moines

It’s time for Gluhwein! along with brats, strudel, and more German food!

For the past few years, downtown Des Moines has hosted a Christkindl Market – a German Christmas Market that shares the old German traditions including food, shopping, and music. Admission and parking are FREE!

For 2024: The event is scheduled for Dec 5th, 5 pm to 9pm, Dec 6th and 27th from 11am to 9 pm, and Dec 8th from 11am to 5pm. Visit their website for details: https://christkindlmarketdsm.com It’s located at Principal Park in downtown Des Moines.

My wife loves loose tea – black, green, fruit, all of it. She spent a bunch of time (and eventually money) with a vendor selling European loose-leaf teas, TeaGschwendner. Their teas follow the European standards for toxicity which are apparently more strict than the US. After buying four varieties, I’m guessing she’ll be ordering more online. She also uses the teas to brew her own kombuchas, so finding a new source of high-quality tea is valuable to the brewing process.

We also visited a number of artists’ booths – everything including greeting cards, woodworking, and lots of holiday decorations/gifts. Visit their website for a full list of vendors.
