It’s time for Gluhwein! along with brats, strudel, and more German food!
For the past few years, downtown Des Moines has hosted a Christkindl Market – a German Christmas Market that shares the old German traditions including food, shopping, and music. Admission and parking are FREE!
For 2022: The event is scheduled for Dec 1st from 5 pm to 11pm, Dec 2nd from 11am to 9 pm, Dec 3rd from 11 am to 9 pm, and Dec 4th from 11am to 5 pm. Visit their website for details: https://christkindlmarketdsm.com It’s located at Principal Park in downtown Des Moines.
My wife loves loose tea – black, green, fruit, all of it. She spent a bunch of time (and eventually money) with a vendor selling European loose leaf teas, TeaGschwendner. Their teas follow the European standards for toxicity which are apparently more strict than the US. After buying four varieties, I’m guessing she’ll be ordering more online. She also uses the teas to brew her own kombuchas, so finding a new source of high-quality tea is valuable to the brewing process.
We also visited a number of artists’ booths – everything including greeting cards, woodworking, and lots of holiday decorations/gifts. Visit their website for a full list of vendors.
