Winter walk at Madison County Historical Museum

I was driving through Winterset, Iowa while the snow was falling and I decided to find a location to shoot photos against the snowfall. Although the Madison County Historical Museum buildings were closed, their grounds are always open and provide some unique elements for photographing in the snow.

For more information on the Madison County Historical Museum, visit http://www.historyonthehill.org/ They are only from May 1st to Oct 31st and I was visiting outside of this time range, so all the buildings were closed.

Elmer McKee Agricultural Building was built in 1991 to house their ever-increasing collection of machinery and ag-related equipment and exhibits.

The Martin Gas Station was originally located at W. First and Washington Street and was moved to this location in 1995.  It was built in 1934.

Field Mercantile Store: Before modern-day grocery stores – most towns had several smaller dry goods stores like this one that was donated by the Fields family.  It was originally located at the corner of 8th Street and East Filmore in Winterset.





Zion Church was originally located about three miles outside of Winterset and was moved to this location in 1988.   It was built in 1881.   The church holds about 80 people and the church and its basement are available for rent and it’s frequently used for weddings.
