Murray Hill Scenic Overlook in Harrison County, Iowa

It’s a short, steep hike to the top of Murray Hill Scenic Overlook, but the views of the Missouri River Valley are outstanding. The trail to the top is less than 1/2 mile, so your complete trip will be at or under one mile. The path to the top is just a simple dirt trail. There are multiple stopping points along the path to the top, each with a bench or picnic table, along with an interpretive sign that explains the significance and history of the Loess Hills.

Murray Hill is also one of the endpoints for Brent’s Trail, a relatively new 13-mile trail that was created through the Loess Hills.

What plant is this? It’s the Yucca plant, which is native to Iowa – but only the Loess Hills.
