When, where, and who to visit at Whoville, Iowa

If you love “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, then you’re in for a treat when you visit Whoville, located in Fairfield, Iowa. It’s straight out of the Dr. Seuss classic and is full of adventure, amazement, and lots of photo opportunities.

There are some significant changes for 2024: new features, new photo ops, a new location with expanded space to accommodate larger crowds and yes, this year there is an admission fee of $15 per person.

What’s included with the admission for 2024?

  • Visit Santa (if its like last year, ask for a buzzer when you enter, they will buzz you when your meet time is ready)
  • Decorate the exclusive JC Huffman 2024 ornament that you get to take home with you!
  • Hot Chocolate Bar: hot chocolate is free, however, if you choose additional toppings there is a small additional charge.
  • Meet the Grinch
  • Visit the Whoville Toy Shop
  • The Magical World of Harry Potter and experience Gringotts Bank
  • Create your own magic potion
  • Photo ops galore!
As you enter, you’ll have a chance to get a buzzer to hold your place in line to see Santa. This sign points you in the various directions where you can explore while you’re waiting for your time slot with Santa.

Are there any potential additional charges/costs?

Yes, the following items are available – but only if you choose.

  • If you want to purchase baked goods at Mrs. Claus’ Bakery
  • Although the hot chocolate bar is free, if you choose to add toppings, there is small additional charge
  • While visiting the Harry Potter experience, you can choose to purchase Butter Beer.
  • Toys are also available for purchase at the Whoville Toy Store.

Where is Whoville located?

Address: Lincoln Center, 401 W. Stone Ave, Fairfield, Iowa. Last year, it was at JC Huffman Cabinetry, but this year they purchased the old Lincoln Elementary School, which will now house this and other events.

There is some parking onsite, but if you need additional parking it is available at 503 N 4th Street and they have a free shuttle service.

When is Whoville open?

Friday and Saturday nights between Thanksgiving and Christmas, specifically:

  • November 29th and 30th, 5:30pm to 8:00pm
  • December 6th and 7th, 5:30pm to 8:00pm
  • December 13th and 14th, 5:30pm to 8:00pm
  • December 20th and 21st, 5:30pm to 8:00pm

There are lots of photo ops in Whoville. All of the sets were created locally by co-owner Jim Huffman and his team.

What is the cost to get in?

Admission price is $15.00 per person

The toy store features plush toys from Whoville that are available for purchase.

Get your free printed photo with Santa! And then take it over to the craft room to turn it into a free ornament.
Stop to get your photo with the Grinch in his lair.
The Whoville Post Office is ready to take your Santa letters.
Mrs. Claus and her helper have baked goods and candies for sale. I got the chocolate-covered toffee with sea salt, yummy!

Who built Whoville?

The sets were primarily built by Jim Huffman, with help from his employees. Jim and Teresa Huffman are the owners of JC Huffman Cabinetry and are the masterminds who brought Whoville to Fairfield. The company that owns the rights to Whoville has toys for sale on-site, but the sets themselves were made in Fairfield by Jim and his team.
