Photos from the lunar eclipse over Des Moines, Iowa

Just before the clouds rolled in, I captured a few photos of the lunar eclipse over some landmarks in Des Moines, Iowa. The photos were taken between 4:15am and 5:15am just before the clouds came rolling in.

If you’ve seen my lunar eclipse photos before – you recognize that I typically cover the full eclipse which lasts several hours. However, since there was a significant chance for cloud cover, I only went out during the total eclipse phase. Therefore I shot the lowest number of total photos I’ve ever taken during an eclipse – only 38 total photos – and here are a few of my favorites.

Looking through the trees toward the Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Monument at the Iowa State Capitol Complex in Des Moines, Iowa. I found out that several deer settle down for the night under the cover near this monument, so at 4:!5am when I rolled in, we startled each other and the deer waited for a few minutes for me to capture these shots – and it appeared that they settled right back in as I was leaving. 1. I love your photos of the lunar eclipse. I couldn’t see it in my cloudy sky in North Iowa, but yours are so interesting with the other landmarks showing artistically. Thanks so!!
