The Wall That Heals Is Coming to Manning, Iowa in July 2026

In July 2026, the small western Iowa community of Manning will host one of the most meaningful traveling memorials in the country.

The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will be open to the public in Manning from Thursday, July 23 through Sunday, July 26, 2026. The exhibit will be located at IKM-Manning School, 209 10th Street in Manning, Iowa, and will be open 24 hours a day until it closes at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.

The traveling exhibit honors the more than 3 million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War and bears the names of the 58,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.

What is The Wall That Heals?

The Wall That Heals is owned and operated by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, the nonprofit organization connected with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Since its debut in 1996, the traveling exhibit has brought a replica of the memorial and a Mobile Education Center to communities across the United States.

The Wall replica is 375 feet long and stands 7.5 feet high at its tallest point. Like the original memorial in Washington, D.C., the names are arranged by date of casualty, and visitors are able to do name rubbings of individual service members.

One of the most powerful parts of this exhibit is that it allows veterans, families, students, and community members to experience the memorial close to home — often in a quieter, more familiar setting than a trip to Washington, D.C.

The Mobile Education Center

Along with The Wall, the exhibit includes a Mobile Education Center housed in the 53-foot trailer that transports the memorial from community to community. When parked, the trailer opens into an educational exhibit about the Vietnam War, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the legacy of those who served.

Displays may include local “Hometown Heroes,” photos and stories from the Wall of Faces, the In Memory Honor Roll, a Vietnam War timeline, and examples of items left at the memorial in Washington, D.C.

For many visitors, this makes the exhibit more than a memorial — it is also a place to learn, remember, and reflect.

Manning Is One of Three Iowa Stops in 2026

Manning is one of three Iowa communities selected to host The Wall That Heals during the 2026 national tour. The other Iowa stops are Council Bluffs, which hosts the exhibit May 22–25, 2026, and Brooklyn, which hosts the exhibit July 30–August 2, 2026.

According to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, the 2026 tour includes 31 communities across the country.

That makes the Manning stop a rare opportunity for western Iowa residents, veterans, families, schools, and visitors from across the region to experience this national memorial close to home.

The Manning organizers are looking for volunteers to help with visitor assistance, setup, and breakdown of the exhibit. The local website notes that there are several ways to get involved, including volunteering, sponsoring, or donating to support the event.

Volunteer training is scheduled for Wednesday, July 22 at 6 p.m.
