Dome for the Holidays
It’s the newest holiday lights tradition in Central Iowa, featuring lights in the tropical indoor gardens under the geodesic dome at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden in Des Moines, Iowa.

What is Dome for the Holidays?
It’s a new annual holiday lighting display that is held inside the dome at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. Visitors can walk indoors through the tropical gardens for approximately 60 to 70 minutes. Strollers, wheelchairs, and mobility scooters are welcome.
What can I expect to see at Dome for the Holidays?
- Of course, the main attraction is the thousands of holiday lights – but you’ll also notice:
- It’s kid friendly – they even have printed scavenger hunt documents at the front desk to help guide kids (and adults!) for what to look for.
- Look for the hidden garden gnomes
- Check out “scenic overlook” spots that have a high vantage point over the gardens
- Check out the model holiday train
- See the blown glass pieces created y Hot Glass in the Quad Cities.
What is the admission price?
$15 for adults and $9 for children. It is recommended to purchase tickets online, but they may have tickets at the door depending on availability. Tickets are time-stamped with half hour starting times to help control traffic flow.
When is Home for the Holidays open?
Wednesdays to Sundays, Nov 16 to Dec 31st, 5pm to 9pm
*Some dates excluded: Closed on Nov 22 and on Holidays (Thanksgiving- Nov 28, Christmas Eve – Dec 24, and Christmas – Dec 25.)
*Some additional dates included: Tickets available Monday, Dec 23, Monday, Dec 30, and Tuesday, Dec 31.
