Holy Trinity Parish began in the 1850s, when about 60 local families — many of whom were Luxembourg immigrants — requested a church to serve their community in what would become the town of Luxemburg.
The first frame church was built in 1861 and formally dedicated in 1865, reflecting the early determination of rural Catholics to build a spiritual home in the Iowa countryside.
By the early 1870s, that first structure was replaced with the stone church that stands today, with construction beginning in 1874 and completing in 1875. It quickly became the heart of Luxembourg Catholic life — and a landmark for the community.

From the four-way stop in town, Holy Trinity’s steeple towers above the surrounding buildings, welcoming travelers and shaping the visual identity of downtown Luxemburg.
